The Story
A brief synopsis of the story, and profiles of the major characters.

Having marked Gundam's tenth anniversary by inviting new creators to revitalize the saga, Sunrise commemorated Gundam's fifteenth birthday by commissioning newcomers to create entirely new Gundam worlds. The first of three "alternate universe" Gundam series, G Gundam was helmed by Yasuhiro Imagawa of Giant Robo fame.

If you're looking for alternate universes, you couldn't get much more alternate than this. Imagawa's Gundam tale inverts the traditional dynamic, with space-dwelling elites using a ravaged Earth as their battleground. In this universe, nationalistic rivalries are resolved through a grand tournament, and each nation's Gundam is a crude reflection of its ethnic traditions. The result is a hybrid of Street Fighter and Dragonball, though once you get past the loony premise it becomes surprisingly engrossing.
